Dubai’s Al Khail Road Upgrade Easing Traffic with new Bridges and Lanes
As a major project to reduce the traffic congestion, Dubai was completed with the Al Khail Road Project. Five new bridges, road section widening, and improvement of interchanges were built to link the important residential, commercial, and industrial areas of the project area. Improvement has also eased traffic on Al Khail Road, bringing capacity up from 12,000 to over 20,000 vehicles per hour.
An additional five new bridges were added to reduce bottlenecks and increase connectivity. Apart from this, average commutes have also been reduced by up to 40% as we ease access to key neighborhoods such as Jumeirah Village Circle, Business Bay and Al Quoz. The road was also widened from three to four lanes, and with the capacity to transport 8,000 more vehicles per hour, there is more free flowing traffic.

In order to reduce congestion, several key interchanges, such as at Meydan Road have been upgraded. Changes in energy and interrogate these changes make vehicles merge and exit more easily, reducing delays and in overall traffic.
With commuter travel times now shorter and more predictable, on some routes, travel times have been reduced by up to 45%. It also makes logistics better with improved road capacity, cutting costs and helping to keep business supply chains running smoothly.
Reducing traffic congestion helps reduce emissions and a cleaner environment is the result. In rush hours, the RTA estimates that a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions will result. Improvments have been made to safety features including new road markings; better signs; and speed monitoring systems.
